Privacy Policy
We take your privacy seriously. Here's exactly what we collect and how we use it.
Effective Date: August 1, 2026 | Last Updated: May 2026
K12 Assist LLC ("Company," "we," "our," or "us") operates the ParentLead platform ("Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use our Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
From School Administrators
When a school registers for ParentLead, we collect: school name and contact information, the name, email address, and phone number of the registering administrator, and school demographics such as grade configuration and school type.
From Current Parent Volunteers
We collect: first name, the grade level(s) of their enrolled child(ren), and the mobile phone number used to participate in the program. Participation is entirely voluntary and requires affirmative opt-in consent.
From Prospective Parents
We collect: the mobile phone number from which a prospective parent texts in, and the content of text message conversations facilitated through the platform. No personally identifying information beyond the phone number is required from a prospective parent to initiate a connection.
Automatically Collected Information
When you visit our website (parentlead.com), we may automatically collect certain technical information, including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring URLs. This information is used in aggregate to improve our website and does not personally identify you.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate and provide the ParentLead Service, including facilitating parent-to-parent text connections
- Match prospective parents with current parent volunteers
- Send operational messages related to the Service (connection notifications, opt-out confirmations)
- Generate connection reports and transcripts for school administrators
- Respond to inquiries and provide customer support
- Improve and develop the Service
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your information for advertising purposes unrelated to the ParentLead Service.
3. Text Messaging and TCPA
All text messaging facilitated through ParentLead is based on express, voluntary consent:
- Prospective parents initiate the process by voluntarily texting a keyword — this constitutes their express written consent to receive messages through the program.
- Current parent volunteers provide written opt-in consent before being added to the platform.
- Any participant may opt out at any time by replying STOP. Upon receipt of a STOP message, we will send one final confirmation and no further messages.
- Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.
Mobile opt-in information and phone numbers will not be shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Sharing of Information
We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- With participating schools: Connection reports, conversation transcripts, and basic participant information are shared with the school administrator as part of the core Service.
- With service providers: We work with trusted third-party vendors (such as SMS delivery providers) who process data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect your information.
- For legal compliance: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor entity, subject to the same privacy protections.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties.
5. FERPA Considerations
ParentLead does not receive, store, or process student educational records as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The Service operates between parents (not students), and schools are responsible for ensuring that their use of ParentLead complies with their own FERPA obligations. Schools should not share any student records or personally identifiable student information through the platform.
6. Children's Privacy
ParentLead is a business-to-school service intended for use by adults (parents and school administrators). We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will promptly delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has submitted information to us should contact us at [email protected].
7. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL), access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Text message conversation data is retained for the duration of the school's service relationship and for a reasonable period thereafter for record-keeping and compliance purposes. Schools may request deletion of their data by contacting us at [email protected].
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of text communications at any time by replying STOP
- Request that we restrict certain processing of your information
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time frame and in accordance with applicable law.
10. Cookies and Website Analytics
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to improve user experience and understand how visitors interact with our site. You may disable cookies through your browser settings; however, doing so may affect some website functionality. We do not use cookies to serve third-party advertising.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify registered schools by email. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
